Is Dictop a good Wispr Flow alternative?

Quick answer: Yes, if you dictate on a Mac, iPhone or iPad and want a one-time purchase instead of a subscription. Dictop can transcribe on your device with a downloaded model, while Wispr Flow always transcribes in the cloud. Dictop costs US $6.99 once for lifetime on-device use, while Wispr Flow Pro costs $15 per month, or $12 per month with annual billing. Dictop also has regular expression rules and can transcribe audio and video files on the Mac. Dictop has no Windows or Android app.

Dictop vs Wispr Flow comes down to a few practical choices. Both apps turn speech into text in the app you are using. They differ in where transcription happens, how you pay, and how much control you get over the text before it lands.

How can I try Dictop if I use Wispr Flow today?

You can test Dictop with your real work, without cancelling anything first.

  1. Install Dictop on your Mac or iPhone and iPad. The 30-day free trial covers on-device use, and you are not charged automatically when it ends.
  2. Download an on-device speech model and dictate the way you normally do. Include names, jargon and numbers from your own work.
  3. Add your most frequent corrections as replacement rules. See custom words and replacements for how.
  4. Decide if you want AI cleanup. It is optional, and you can review text before it is pasted.
  5. Compare the results with your current setup, then decide.

How much does Dictop cost, and does one purchase cover all my devices?

Dictop costs US $6.99 once for lifetime on-device use (US App Store). Regional prices vary and are shown in the app. Supported Apple Intelligence refinement is included. Wispr Flow's plans are listed on its pricing page.

Cloud models are optional. You buy prepaid credits as hours of dictation, and they never expire. In the US App Store, one hour of Cloud Transcription + AI costs $1.49. Cloud credits are a separate purchase from lifetime access. See dictation without a subscription for the full price list.

One lifetime purchase covers Dictop on Mac, iPhone and iPad. On another device, sign in with the same Apple Account and choose Restore previous purchases. Cloud credit balances belong to your Dictop account, so sign in to the same account on each device.

What are the limits of Dictop?

  • Dictop has no Windows or Android app.
  • Dictop has no team administration, such as shared team dictionaries or central billing.
  • Many controls are Mac-only, including regular expression rules, Services actions, continuous mode and the Dock menu.
  • On iPhone and iPad, the keyboard needs Full Access, microphone permission for Dictop and a recording session you start in the app. Some apps and secure fields do not allow custom keyboards.
  • Local speech models work best on Apple Silicon Macs. On Intel Macs, use cloud transcription.
  • Accuracy depends on the model, your voice and your language. We have not run a benchmark, so we do not rank either app for accuracy or speed.
  • When you pick a cloud model, your audio goes to that service for transcription. Check the privacy policy for details.

Which should I try first?

Try Dictop if you work on Apple devices, want to pay once, or want rules you can define precisely and a choice of where transcription happens. The trial is free, so you can compare with your own voice and apps.
