Can I review dictated text before it is pasted into another app?

Quick answer — November 1, 2026: Yes. Dictop has an edit-before-paste option for on-demand dictation on Mac with Paste delivery selected. It opens an editable transcript before delivery, so you can correct wording, paste or copy the revised text, or cancel. Continuous mode pastes directly without this checkpoint.

Review a transcript before it reaches another app when the details matter. A quick check is especially useful for names, dates, prices and instructions whose meaning depends on one word.

What should you review?

Check the information that changes the meaning of the passage before spending time on style:

  • Names, product terms and unfamiliar vocabulary.
  • Numbers, dates and units.
  • Negations such as “not” and “never.”
  • Conditions such as “if approved” or “unless it changes.”
  • Any code, path or command you spoke.

If AI refinement is enabled, also check that it has not strengthened a tentative statement or removed an exception. Good punctuation cannot compensate for a changed instruction.

How do you review text before pasting?

Choose on-demand recording, select Paste in the Mac insertion settings, and enable Edit text before pasting. Dictop prepares the text through your configured transcription and editing workflow, then presents an editor before pasting. Type and Copy delivery do not open this editor.

Make your changes in that editor and choose Paste when the text is ready, or Copy to put it on the clipboard. Cancel if you do not want to deliver it. Press Command-Return to paste from the editor. If you want to submit the text separately in the destination app, turn off Press a key after insertion; that optional setting can send Return or another key after pasting.

Try this first with an unsent draft in the destination app. Automatic delivery still depends on macOS Accessibility permission, app behavior and the intended field being available.

Is this the same as transcript history?

Edit-before-paste lets you check text before delivery. Saved history helps you find a transcript afterward and compare original, replaced and AI versions when present.

Pre-paste edits affect the delivered text, not the saved transcript versions. Cancel stops delivery but does not disable history saving. If your goal is to keep a corrected note, check the history entry and edit the saved text as needed.

When is copy-only output a better fit?

Choose copy-only delivery if you prefer to decide where and when to paste. It is also useful when a particular destination does not cooperate with automatic insertion.

For routine drafts, direct pasting may be convenient. Enable the review step when you want to check the wording before it reaches the destination.

Pasting text into a terminal or a message field is still a consequential step in that destination. Review the inserted text before executing or submitting it.

Try Dictop for Mac and read the insertion guide for output methods and permissions.
